Campbell puts Coagh into last 16

LOUGHGALL deservedly crashed out of the JJB Sports Irish Cup at the hands Championship 2 side Coagh United who now go onto face Newbuildings United in the 6th round.

United are now the only local side left in the competition and they will be hoping to defeat Newbuildings and seal a place in the quarter finals of the Irish Cup

Loughgall were missing four first-team regulars as Stephen Ferguson and Chris Hull were both serving suspensions, joining the injured duo of Neil King and Alain Emerson on the sidelines. With these players missing boss Colin Malone was forced to reshuffle his starting XI and change his side’s recent starting formation.

The visitors raced into a commanding lead early in the first half thanks to Aaron Campbell’s quickfire double; on both occasions he converted after excellent play by Steven Park. On 14 minutes Park whipped in a low ball across goal for Campbell to finish from close range, and then two minutes later Park raced through the Loughgall defence before squaring for Campbell to confidently net from 15 yards.

The Villagers equalised in the 33rd minute when leading goalscorer Stephen Doyle received a pass on the edge of the penalty area before turning and firing an excellent shot inside the far post.

Campbell almost grabbed a hat-trick 12 minutes into the second period when he latched onto a forward pass and hit a superb strike from outside the area that was well parried by ‘keeper Marc Robinson.

On 74 minutes Steven Park worked a shooting opportunity from 20 yards out as Coagh looked to put the tie beyond doubt, however the talented midfielder fired wide.

In the 80th minute substitute Mark Teggart’s run to the byline and pull-back was met by John Guy, now pushed forward, however he couldn’t keep his first-time effort on target under pressure. Loughgall’s best chance came with three minutes remaining as substitute Paul Keenan won the initial header from Malone’s free-kick, allowing Greg Hall to power a header goalwards and bring out a good save from ‘keeper Johnny Yorke.

Loughgall: Robinson, Hall, Brady, Stewart, Guy, Carson (Teggart 75m), Kernaghan, Malone, Hawthorne, Doyle (Fox 61m), Pedlow (Keenan 61m). Unused subs: Blevins, Symon Ferguson.

Coagh United: Yorke, McGeown, Thornton, Calderwood, Ferguson, Park, Campbell (Black 79m), Donaldson, Gillespie, Dallas, Scott (Clarke 85m). Unused subs: Noble, Anderson.
