COAGH United grabbed themselves a promotion lifeline on Tuesday night as they defeated Knockbreda in Belfast.

The Hagan Park outfit had saw their promotion aspirations crumble following a number of poor results and add in a depleted panel missing half of their starting eleven, Coagh were struggling to stay in the hunt for elevation to Championship 1.

However, a stunning victory away at leaders Knockbreda has put United back into contention. The current table has Knockbreda on top with 54 points. Coagh are in second place, one point behind the Belfast outfit with 53 points. However, they still have a game in hand over the leaders. In third position is Dundela on 52 points. Ballyclare and Lurgan Celtic are in fourth and fifth respectively and are still in with a shout of finishing in the top two.

Netx up for Coagh is a massive tie against Dundela on Saturday afternoon at Hagan Park. Victory over the Wilgar Park outfit could prove crucial to Coagh’s hopes of playing Championship 1 football next season.

After Saturday, Coagh have four games left. A tricky fixture to the Police on Tuesday 17th April could prove vital to their hopes. Coagh then have two home games ( 21st April v Chimney Corner and 24th April v Lurgan Celtic) before meeting Ballyclare in the last game of the season at Dixon Park.
