COOKSTOWN Olympic entertained 3rd Ballyclare Old Boys last Saturday and eventually ended up losing by two goals to one.

Olympic started brightly and after three minutes a Ryan O’Neill corner was met by Richard McMenemy but his effort was cleared and then after ten minutes a Liam Hoy shot beat the keeper but was cleared off the line.

Ryan O’Neill then provided a cross after fifteen minutes but Liam Hoy headed just over the bar while Olympic had the best chance after forty two minutes when a Ryan O’Neill shot just skimmed the post.

The second half was more action packed with a chance for the visitors after fifty five minutes before O’Neill just shot over the bar two minutes later. Olympic deservedly took the lead on fifty eight minutes when McMenemy won a header for Ryan O’Neill and his low drive beat the Ballyclare keeper. The Olympic lead only lasted five minutes until Ballyclare equalized when the ball fell invitingly to their forward after a punch out from Olympic keeper Devlin. Ryan O’Neill turned provider again after seventy five minutes, when he pulled the ball back only to see Ruairi Scullion shoot wide. Ballyclare profited four minutes later from a poor kick out to take a two one lead. Olympic piled on the pressure with Ballyclare sitting back and after eighty three minutes a Lee Mitchell drive came back out from the underside of the cross bar and then the Ballyclare keeper pulled off two great saves from Mark Loughran and Ryan O’Neill to deny Olympic the draw.

Star man was awarded to Ryan O’Neill. Team R Devlin, E McSloy, M O’Hare, M Meenan, M O’Neill, L Mullan, L Hoy, M Loughran, C O’Reilly, R O’Neill and R McMenemy.
