Cookstown Olympic

COOKSTOWN Olympic entertained Armagh Rovers in the third round of the Mid Ulster Shield last Saturday and went out of the cup losing two one. Olympic enjoyed most of the early play and after eight minutes Conor O’Hare went on a run down the right and pushed the ball to Ryan O’Neill who crossed for Johnny O’Neill but the Armagh keeper pulled off a great save.

Armagh then had a good attack after 14 minutes that saw Olympic keeper Jamie O’Neill save smartly. Then on 30 minutes the ball broke to Ryan O’Neill 20 yards out but his shot came back off the bar but two minutes later Armagh went one up from sharp finish after a free kick. In the second half Olympic had more of the ball and they grabbed an equaliser from the penalty spot after 51 minutes and Ryan O’Neill dispatched the kick. A typical cup tie then ensued with plenty of end to end play with Olympic not managing to convert any chances. They paid dearly for this after 63 minutes when they conceded their second goal and could not find a response to take the match into extra time. Team: Jamie O’Neill, D Campbell, M Meenan, C O’Reilly, Johnny O’Neill, L Mitchell, R Devlin, R Scullion, C O’Hare, R McMenemy, R O’Neill. Subs D Doherty, E McSloy and L Mullan.
