Crucial three points for Reds
THE Reds returned to their home pitch at Meadowbank last Saturday against a stubborn Heights team for a league game. They got of to a wonderful start when the midfield of McDonald, Bates, T. Brady and Taylor played neat football in the opponents half and created a few chances but found the Heights keeper in fine form.
The Reds had Captain Stevie Devlin slotting into the centre half position replacing the missing Brian Martin to play alongside the ever improving Ryan Sinclair. This looks like a great partnership and they were the rock of the Reds defence. The home team created a few more chances but ended up finishing the half at 0-0.
Forty five seconds into the second half, the local team took the lead with a fine left footed strike from the returning Chris Bates. Goal number two came shortly after with Ryan Taylor the scorer. He received the ball out on the left wing and beat three defenders and calmly bent the ball with the inside of his right boot past the advancing keeper.
Heights got a wake up call and stepped it up a gear and with a rare effort they scored a header past McManus in the Reds goal to make it 2-1. A few subs were made and within minutes of a return from a nasty injury Dermot ‘Dee’ Graham got his name on the score sheet.
He scored after playing a one-two with player manager Stevie Jordan out on the right and slotted it past the keeper with ease. The score finished 3-1 to the Reds who continued their unbeaten form from the Christmas break which is pleasing the Manager and Supporters.
The Reds are away to Portstewart Town in the North West Junior Cup this Saturday and will be hoping for a good run in this year.
