DUNGANNON SWIFTS: Hegarty's '˜goal' is more clean sheets

Chris Hegarty scored his first goal for Dungannon in the rout of Portadown - but took more satisfaction from keeping a clean sheet.

The defender was one of six different scorers as the Swifts ran riot at Stangmore Park but Hegarty preferred to focus on his role in keeping a clean sheet - only Swifts’ third of the season so far.

“The goal is nice to get and I’ve been looking for it for the last while, but to keep a clean sheet was very, very important,” he said.

“We’ve set ourselves a goal of getting as many clean sheets as possible this season.

“The back four and goalkeeper, as a unit, we target clean sheets. For me that is more important than scoring a goal.

“It’s always nice to come up with one or two now and then, but for me the clean sheet was more important.”

Hegarty’s defensive partner David Armstrong also got among the goals. The other scorers were Douglas Wilson, Terry Fitzpatrick, Cormac Burke and Andrew Mitchell.

Dungannon assistant boss Terry McCrory was impressed by their response to the previous weekend’s loss at Ballinamallard.

“I am absolutely delighted with how we played,” he said, “The guys were obviously very disappointed after last week’s performance and the most important thing was to bounce back.

“It was a fantastic performance all over the park against a Portadown side that had done very well against Glenavon the previous week.

“I know they had come here targeting it as a potential win, and we are delighted to win.”
