LURGAN CELTIC 2

MOYOLA PARK 2

Meryvn Pattison’s Moyola Park players returned from Lurgan last Saturday somewhat disappointed that their four match winning run in IFA Championship Two had come to an end.

It is certainly an indication of the upbeat nature of the team’s recent performances that earning a point against a rejuvenated Lurgan Celtic side - now managed by Colin Malone - should seem to be below current expectations.

Knockrammer Park was quite heavy and the home side seemed to adapt more quickly with Dale Malone testing Marty Farniok with a couple of long range efforts.

The opening goal came in the 18th minute when Steven Kenning beat former Dungannon Swifts star Johnny Montgomery in the air, flicked the ball to Chris Dowie who rounded Cairon Fox and Kenning was on hand to tap the ball into an empty net.

Kenning and Craig McAllister were involved in the build up to the second goal which Dowie volleyed past Fox in the 28th minute. With the half time whistle beckoning Lurgan Celtic won a corner which was superbly delivered to Conor Hagan who beat Farniok to reduce the arrears.

Lurgan Celtic began the second half in frenetic fashion but found it hard to break down a resilient Moyola Park defence. In the 63rd minute a free kick to Lurgan found an unmarked Conor Forker who headed the equaliser into Farniok’s net.

Dowie was unfortunate not to score a third goal for the visitors but saw his effort bounce back off the crossbar. Dowie, Gareth Stewart and Kenning each had opportunities to snatch a late winner for the visitors but at the final whistle each team had to settle for one point.

With Steven Kelly and Sean McConnell adding to an ever lengthening injury list a positive note is that Sean McCabe played 90 minutes for Moyola Park Olympic and came through unscathed.
