WOODLANDS FC 1 COOKSTOWN OLYMPIC 1

Cookstown Olympic, sponsored by the Dunleath Bar, travelled to Carrickfergus on to play Woodlands in the league, the match ending all square.

Olympic started well and had early shots saved from Nigel Johnston and Matty Hughes, while an over the top tackle on midfielder Ryan Devlin forced a substitution after 25 minutes.

Olympic opened the scoring after 43 minutes as a Steven Conway goal kick was flicked on by Mark Meenan to Matty Hughes and he crossed for Nigel Johnston to finish from 15 yards out.

The second half saw the torrential rain making football even harder but Woodlands nearly equalized after 48 minutes but Olympic keeper Conway saved .

The game changed on 60 minutes when a Donovan McGuckin free kick was missed by the defender and fell to Ricky Averell but unfortunately he volleyed over the bar from 10 yards out.

A number of strong challenges from Woodlands caused a lot of stoppage time to be added on and it was in the second minute of added time that Woodlands grabbed their equalizer to leave Olympic frustrated.

Team: S Conway, L Mullan, D McCabe, E McSloy, R Devlin, R Bloomer, M Meenan, K Loughry, D McGuckin, M Hughes and N Johnston. Subs R Averell, J O’Neill and C Hunter.

Next Saturday Olympic will play Killymoon Rangers Reserves. Training will continue every Thursday night at 8pm at MUSA.
