Coagh travelled to last season’s league champions on Friday night and came away with a hard fought point in a fairly even contest. The first half started with the home side dictating play in the opening 15 minutes but the Coagh defence looked solid as they limited Armagh to long range efforts.

Coagh came more into the game as the half finished even, the best of the chances falling to Willy Ferguson and Aaron Campbell. Halftime 1-1.

With both sides giving very little away, Coagh started the half more confidently as they created a few openings of their own. With Steven Ramsey replacing Simon Gates on 53 minutes as both sides cancelled the other out.

It was the home side that took the lead on 64 minutes, a cross from the left towards the back post was flicked back across goal and into the net, beyond the reaches of both McKenzie and Steven Glasgow.

On 76 minutes Coagh replaced Bill Lees with Andrew Creighton and with a change of tactics pushed for the equaliser. On 81 minutes the home side could have made it safe but for a reflex safe from McKenzie pushing the shot onto the crossbar.

With five minutes remaining Willy Ferguson had a great chance as his well struck shot was parried away by the home keeper, but just two minutes later the equaliser did come as James Ferguson’s found himself in the right place to fire the visitors level.

As time run out Coagh could have snatched the win with chances for Ramsey and Ferguson. Coagh Reserves are at home next week to Newry City Res in the Reserve Championship 2pm.
