Ballynahinch 9 Mid Ulster Ladies 0

After the international break it was back to Cup action this week for the Mid Ulster girls with a trip to Ballynahinch in the Irish FA Cup.

With Ballyhnahinch playing a number of leagues lower than the Mid Ulster girls this looked a formality but Mid Ulster took no chances and fielded an unchanged side from recent league encounters.

Although young and enthusiastic Ballynahinch were no match for the visitors although they did manage to withstand the Mid Ulster onslaught for 17 minutes. Cathy Rees got the opener after good persistence.

Cathy was on the score sheet again seven minutes later after a great ball from Claire Rooney and made it 2-0.

A trademark Chloe McCarron free kick from the edge of the box made it 3-0 five minutes later before Sarah Connolly put away a great header from a Chloe McCarron corner.

The second half was more of the same with Sarah Connolly getting a second on the 50 minute mark.

Not to be outdone by her strike partner Adele Gillespie got her first of the night two minutes later and straight from the kick off Samantha Kelly made it 7-0.

Ballynahinch never stopped trying but the gulf in class was too much for the youthful team as Samantha Kelly got a second and then perhaps the goal of the night came from Emma McFarland.

Ballynahinch had a late opportunity for a consolation strike but their free kick didn’t trouble stand in keeper Claire Rooney.

Both teams made substitutions with Hannah Turkington and Elaine Junk coming on for Mid Ulster and the game played out to finish 9-0 to the visitors.
