MOWHAN UNITED 0 COOKSTOWN CELTIC 2

Cookstown Celtic travelled to Tandragee to take on last seasons Division 4 champions Mowhan Utd and came away with all three points after a 2-0 victory.

Celtic started the brighter of the two teams and went close through efforts from O’Neill and McCaffrey.

At the other end O’Neill in the Celtic goal had to be alert to smother a few dangerous through balls. Celtic continued to put pressure on the hosts goal with several dangerous set piece deliveries from Muldoon causing all sorts of problems for the home defence.

Celtic broke the deadlock with ten minutes remaining in the first half after a fine flowing move. Good interplay between O’Neill and McCaffrey allowed the latter to slip a through ball to Harley who unleashed a right foot effort against the post which rebounded to O’Hare who made no mistake from 6 yards out.

Celtic almost doubled their lead before the half when a fine dipping effort from Muldoon looked destined for the top corner but the keeper somehow managed to tip it over the bar.

The second half started at a much lower tempo with both sides failing to create any openings. Celtic could have got their second when a fine cross from McCaffrey almost picked out McCloskey at the back post but he couldnt reach the ball before the defender.

Celtic did get their second soon after when good pressing by McCaffery allowed O’Neill to dispossess the defender and run clear before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. The home team now pressed to get back into the game but were restricted to long range efforts which O’Neill was more than equal to in the Celtic goal.

Celtic had further chances through McGahan and McCaffrey to add to their tally but couldnt find a way past the home keeper before the final whistle
