Cookstown Olympic 1 Ballyclare Comrade Res 5 -

A very under strength Cookstown Olympic faced a full strength Ballyclare side and within five minutes Olympic were one goal down.

A poor penalty decision saw Ballyclare stretch their lead after 20 minutes totally against the run of play with Olympic unable to convert chances that fell to Oisin Maguire and Liam Mullan.

The first half ended with another penalty against Olympic but this time net minder Jamie O’Neill pulled off a great save.

The second half was only three minutes Old and Ballyclare grabbed their third goal when a corner was easily headed to the net.

The Ballyclare squad was able to call on three pairs of fresh legs and they got two more goals after 82 and 87 minutes.

However Olympic had the consolation goal and it will be a very strong contender for goal of the season as straight from the restart the ball was played back to Ryan Bloomer waiting outside the centre circle and spotting the Ballyclare keeper off his line he blazed the ball to the net from a full 60 yards out.

Team: - J O’Neill, L Mullan, R Bloomer, D McGuckin, M O’Hare, D Maguire, M Hughes, O Maguire, C O’Reilly, R Scullin, and T Keenan. Subs N Johnston.

The match ball for Saturdays match was sponsored by Leyden’s Autoparts, Cookstown.

Next Saturday Olympic will travel to Skegoneil Avenue in Belfast to play Brantwood Reserves in the first round of the Canada Trophy with a 2pm kick off.
