Football: Cookstown Youth Under 16s knocked off top spot

In the opening 15 minutes, Paul Stewart linked well with Declan O’Neill but O’Neill shot wide.

On 13 minutes Chris Reynolds pulled off a good save from a free kick.

In the 33rd minute, Hillhead took the lead, when the home team failed to deal with a long throw-in and a front post flick on it was headed in from six yards out.

Minutes later Hillhead should have been two up only for a great double save from Reynolds in the home goal.

Cookstown drew level on 40 minutes, when O’Neill beat two players and put in a great cross for Stewart to slot home for 1-1.

Cookstown started the second half better with Stewart shooting was just wide.

O’Neill then beat two players and his cross caused problems inside the box but the home side could not get it over the line.

From Hillhead’s first attack of the half, a Hillhead free kick, saw an unmarked player head past Reynolds.

Reynolds pulled of a smart save on 70 minutes. Hillhead when 3-1 up a minutes later when Cookstown lost the ball on the attack and a quick counter by the away side found a player on the left and his cross to the back post found an unmarked player for another goal.

Cookstown pulled a goal back when a Jerome Harte corner was headed home by Richardson for 3-2.

With Cookstown on top they gave away another poor goal.

The last 8 minutes saw chances for both side but neither could add to their score.
