There was real disappointment for Cookstown Youth FC’S Under 14 team as they came up short in their Cup final against a very strong Armagh City side.

The game started in an even fashion and Armagh defended a Tyler Anderson cross solidly to clear. Cookstown fell behind when Mark Espie couldn`t halt his winger and a dangerous cross was converted by Tyler Anderson into his own net.

Worse was soon to follow with another good cross evading Afonso Tereso and headed in at the back post.

Cookstown got into some promising positions themselves with Brendan Davey firing over, Erik Banas firing dangerously across goal and Ryan McFarland just not getting enough power into his effort.

Armagh looked the more likely to convert their chances and a well struck high shot was too hot for Cookstown keeper Afonso Tereso.

Cookstown kept trying and Ryan McFarland missed a great chance to get his team onto the scoresheet. Jordan Ferguson and Jake Egan came on as substitutes and caused a few problems for the opposition.

Armagh struck twice more to leave a harsh reflection on the final scoreline. The Cookstown boys had hoped to win this trophy as a tribute to the late Jordan Scott but unfortunately came up short.

They can hold their heads high after a very respectable performance.

Manager Nigel Talbot thanked the large support that turned out to cheer the boys on and his players who gave their all in this contest. Man of the match was Ryan McFarland.
