Ten minutes later it was 2-0 when Shiels lost his marker and headed home from a corner. The Blues were second best all over the pitch at this stage and keeper Kerr came to their rescue with a fine save when McElhatton raced through one-on-one.

Desertmartin went close on another couple of occasions before the Blues finally created a couple of promising situations but failed to test the keeper.

The Blues improved after the break and pulled a goal back when O’Neill turned Coogan’s free kick past the keeper. Monaghan then had a chance but shot wide.

Kerr twice made saves to keep the Blues in the game and Stewart cleared one off the line but any chance the Blues had of getting something from the game disappeared when L Brady received a second yellow card.

Desertmartin made the game safe when McElhatton scored their third. Doole almost pulled one back with a tremendous effort which the keeper tipped over.

A really poor performance from the Blues with Desertmartin superior all over the pitch and fully deserving of their victory.
