MAGHERAFELT REDS 2 UPPERLANDS 0
Magherafelt Reds hosted local rivals Upperlands at their new pitch at Meadowbank Sports Arena on Saturday.
This the Reds’ second game on the 3G surface started off quickly with the Magherafelt men pressing from the off.
The midfield partnership of Sinclair and Devlin were at their usual best, breaking down play and driving the attacks forward with some searching passes to Montague and Martin up front.
The deadlock was broken by new signing and ex-Upperlands man Ryan McKeever who broke from his man on the left and made a powerful run into the Upperlands box to strike past the big shot stopper and giving the home team the deserved lead.
Defensively Cormac Martin, Anderson, Jordan and Mullan were dealing with any attacks well with Reds stalwart Jordan playing some excellent balls out from center half and leading the counter attacks.
Captain Stephen Devlin was unlucky not to add his name to the score sheet going close on several occasions and seeing shots come off the posts and cross bar.
It was man of the match Sinclair who added the second of the day and his third in two weeks to put the game beyond Upperlands reach.
A decent performance on the day with the Reds starting to get to grips with their new playing surface in preparation for a tough encounter against Portrush next weekend at Meadowbank in the Quarter Final of the Constitution Cup, kick off at 2pm.
Team: Ciaran Martin, Cormac Martin, Anderson, Jordan, Mullan, Campbell, Devlin, Sinclair, McKeever, Montague, Jason Martin, Brady, Overend, McPeake.
