Chimney Corner 1 Tobermore United 2

Tobermore United travelled the short distance to Allen Park in Antrim last Saturday to face the rejuvenated Chimney Corner in a “must win” game for United.

No longer can a game against the Corner be considered as an easy 3 points as demonstrated the previous weekend when they lead league leaders Banbridge by 2 goals to 0 only to lose 3-2 in the 97th minute.

Ciaran McFaul started his first game for Tobermore and boss Adrian Whiteside will be well pleased with his performance and indeed the overall team’s first half performance but despite controlling most of the half they went behind on 25 minutes when Ciaran Ryan punished a defensive mix up to put the home side ahead.

Tobermore maintained their dominance and just before half time Trevor Parkhill got his 3rd goal in as many games to put his side back on level terms.

Most of the second half was played in monsoon conditions which probably contributed to the drop in standards by both sides but it was Tobermore who better weathered the storm and the hard working Martin Hughes put the visitors ahead on 73 minutes with a clever chip over the advancing Corner keeper.

Both sides had chances as the game progressed but none were taken and Tobermore deservedly went home with all 3 points.
