Valley Rangers were the visitors at Fortwilliam Park last Saturday for this interesting 3rd round Intermediate Cup game.

Rangers came into the game in top form having scored 30 goals in their last four games whilst Tobermore were going through a bit of a sticky patch having been knocked out of the Irish Cup the previous week so the home side knew what to expect.

The visitors chose to play with the gale force wind in their backs in the first half but Tobermore defended well and the deadlock was only broken by a penalty five minutes from half time that was expertly despatched by the Rangers centre forward Richard Graham.

Rangers doubled their lead shortly after half time when Ryan Stevenson slotted home at the back post.

Tobermore didn’t panic and Ryan Winton reduced the deficit with a well struck free kick on 54 minutes and 15 minutes later the same player fired home a deserved equaliser.

Both sides had chances to win the game in normal time with Tobermore’s Trevor Parkhill hitting the cross bar with five minutes to go and with time running out and extra time looming Dean Stewart popped up with a last minute winner to break the hearts of the Kilkeel outfit.

Tobermore United: P Wells, R Winton, G Donaldson, K Steele, D McClements, D Stewart, A Graham S Heneghan, C McFaul, T Parkhill, G McLaughlin. Subs: D Gibson, J Henry S Lyons.

It’s back to league action next Saturday for Tobermore with a trip to Annagh United’s new artificial pitch.

This will be Tobermore’s final game of 2013 and with that in mind we would like to wish everyone connected with the club, especially our supporters and sponsors, a merry Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year.

Armagh City will be the visitors to Fortwilliam Park on Saturday January 4th for the first game of 2014.

Tobermore’s Mini Soccer Centre fun football sessions continue as usual this Saturday at Maghera Leisure Centre but there will be none on Saturday December 28th and January 4th with the fun resuming on Saturday, January 11th. The one hour session start at 10am sharp and finish at 11am.

The fun sessions are supervised by IFA accredited coaches and are open to all boys and girls of primary school age and everyone is welcome.
