Football: Tobermore Youth Academy coach honoured

Cliff Bennett head coach in Tobermore Youth Football Academy was one of the Grassroots football heroes from across Northern Ireland that was honoured at the 2013 McDonald’s Irish FA Community Awards, held in Derry/Londonderry.

Coaches, clubs and volunteers were honoured by football icons McDonald’s ambassadors Pat Jennings, Sir Geoff Hurst and Ian Rush at the awards ceremony.

Cliff was one of them being awarded Regional Coach of the Year and Community Relations.

This is such an achievement for such a little club in Tobermore and everyone within the club was delighted for Cliff and it couldn’t of went to a better person.

Cliff has been volunteering with youth for over 20 years and has been volunteering in Tobermore Youth Football Academy the past 6-7 years and is thrilled to have won. All he believes in is that it’s all for the club and the young ones.

Within his time in the club, Cliff has brought both communities together and has built the club up since he has taken over.

Results: Tobermore U11s 2 Coleraine Colts 3; Tobermore U15s 1 Limavady U15s 2.

Fixtures: Friday 1st November- Tobermore U11s v TBA at Ballymoney- 7.20pm. Saturday 2nd- Portrush U15s v Tobermore U15s at Portrush, 11am; Bertie Peacocks v Tobermore U17s at Coleraine, 11am.

Tobermore Youth are still recruiting and signing players from the whole community to develop for their U15 and U17 squads. All existing and new players will be made most welcome.

Training will continue for the U9 and U11 age groups every Monday night 6.30-7.30 @ McKinney Hall, Tobermore. New Players for all age groups are welcome
