Good day at the office for Draperstown Celtic

Tullyvallen 1

DCFC U16s 3#

DRAPERSTOWN Celtic U16s got the ball rolling on a special day for the DC club. All three teams won on Saturday and the clean sweep was started by the U16s when they faced Tullyvallen at Cookstown Fairhill.

Due to other commitments DC were without five starting players from last week but the young players drafted into the team repaid the trust shown in them by producing a brilliant performance to earn DC all three points.

Right from the beginning DC took the game to Tullyvallen and almost scored in the 10th minute when following a goal mouth scramble the ball fell to young Oran Kelly about 8 yards out but his header hit the cross bar and bounced clear of the 18 yard area. DC had the majority of the possession but just could not get the breakthrough. They needed to be on their guard however and several times Mullin and Burke were required to clear the danger. However 20 mins into the game the pressure paid off and Oran Kelly swept the ball home after good work down the wing. This gave DC confidence and they really dominated the possession with Doole, McGuigan and McElhone proving a constant threat to Tullyvallen as Donnelly marked Tullyvallens best player out of the game. The Tullyvallen team did have a few chances but they were quickly snuffed out by Conway, McBride, Burke and Mullin. The rest of the half was all DC but they could not extend the lead. Half Time 1-0 DC.

The second half went much the way of the first with DC having the lion’s share of possession and this was rewarded with the second goal 5 minutes into the half. An attempted clearance from the Tullyvallen was knocked down by the hard working Devlin and when the ball fell to Kelly he calmly lifted the ball over the centre half with his right foot and volleyed home with his left. The same player almost had a hat trick 10 minutes later when he chipped over the keeper but the goal was ruled offside. Tullyvallen resorted to long balls but the handling of Grant in goals was superb and no threat came. DC got the 3rd when Doole side footed home from 6 yards. Tullyvallen did get 1 back when a powerfully struck free found the top corner of the DC goal with Grant having no chance. DC almost restored the 3 goal cushion when a wonderful 25 yard free kick from McElhone clipped the post and went wide. Final score 1-3. A great team performance with the young players showing their worth. It was a great sporting game which left the referee very little to do
