Moyola Park Under 17s 4
Markethill Swifts 1
Moyola’s U17 team played league new-comers Markethill Swifts at Gortgonis, Coalisland.
Moyola had plenty of the possession in the early stages of the game with Cousley in goal having little to do but failed to penetrate the Markethill defence. Flanagan created space down the left and pulled the ball back across the goalmouth but no-one was there to finish. McLaverty then found McElhatton in the box but he blasted over.
Darragh found McElhatton on the right who crossed to the unmarked Flanagan who made no mistake from 6 yards. Twenty minutes into the game and Moyola extended their advantage when Flanagan finished off a superb passing movement, initiated from left back Conway, via Darragh and McElhatton.
Flanagan then warmed the keeper’s hands with a fierce free-kick from 25yards. Just before the break McLaverty fed Darragh into space but his shot curled wide of the far upright.
Five minutes into the second period and Doyle picked up Moyola’s third with a super volley from a right wing cross. A McGrogan corner was then met powerfully by the head of Downey to put Moyola four nil to the good. McAllister went close in the latter stages of the game, side-footing the ball into the keeper’s hands.
McAtamney then picked up the ball at right-back and raided down the wing beating three to get to the bye-line and pull the ball back across the goalmouth only for a defender to toe-poke clear. The dying minutes saw Markethill break and score what was to be a consolation.
