THE local footballing season may have concluded only a matter of weeks ago but preparations are already under way for the 2012/2013 season.
Upperlands man Kenny Shiels has agreed to bring over his Kilmarnock side to Fortwilliam Park for an exciting pre season friendly.
The Scottish League Cup winners will visit Tobermore on Saturday 7th July. Shiels is a former player/manager of Tobermore and a club spokesman was delighted to announce the return of their former boss.
“We are absolutely delighted that Kenny has agreed to bring over a Kilmarnock side to play out first team. We are certain that the local football fans will come out in force to show their support for Kenny and his side.”
Shiels signed a new contract on Tuesday afternoon with the Ayrshire side amid speculation that he turned down an offer of an interview at a English club, rumoured to be Bournemouth.
In his first full season in charge of Kilmarnock, Shiels delivered the Scottish Communities League Cup when they defeated a Celtic side led by former Maghera Colts player Neil Lennon in the final.
In addition, Kilmarnock finished in 7th position in the SPL and picked up some impressive results including a win over Rangers at Ibrox in February.
As well as facing Kilmarnock, Tobermore will also play host to Coleraine on Saturday 21st July.
Work is already under-way both on and off the field at Fortwilliam Park. Oliver McAuley has already added a number of new players to his panel and the Fortwilliam surface is currently being worked on ahead of the start of pre season at the end of June.
