Lamont secures Tobermore’spassage into Cup next round

Despite Neil Lamont going close on a number of occasions early on it was the visitors who struck first with 20 minutes gone when Ciaran McKenna unfortunately put through his own goals when attempting a clearance under pressure.

The Larne men’s lead lasted only for a couple of minutes however when Ryan Doherty, December’s Championship player of the month, got his head to a Lamont cross giving Kerr no chance with a bullet header.

Tobermore shaded the play for the majority of an entertaining first half but they had to wait until just after the break for number two to come along and who else but top marksman Lamont was on hand to fire past the advancing the Kerr.

The expected goal avalanche didn’t happen and indeed the longer the game went on the visitors looked the more likely to equalise but Lamont secured Tobermore’s passage into the next round with another fine finish with two minutes on the clock.

Tobermore have another break from league action this weekend as they entertain Kilmore Rec at Fortwilliam Park in the Irish Cup. This will be another very tricky encounter with both sides wanting to go through to the next round hoping for one of the premiership big guns at home to ensure a reasonable pay day.

Tobermore Mini Soccer Centre sessions resumes in Maghera Recreation Centre this Saturday morning from 10.00 am until 11.00.

Players as usual should come along kitted out ready to play with shin guards and trainers or boots, weather permitting.
