McIlhatton super strike finishes Carniny

Desertmartin 3 Carniny 0

Desertmartin hosted Carniny last Saturday in the league and ran out comfortable winners.

With several of the first team squad missing the Desert had to call up lads who were penned in to play for the Swifts at Ballyclare.

The home side went into the lead as early as the 5th minute through Darren Scott and a few minutes later Lee Smyth added a second to send the Desert’ in at half-time with a two goal cushion

After the interval, Carniny came more into the game but some excellent goal keeping by Davy Nelson kept the visitors at bay.

Danny McIlhatton who was standing at centre back put the game beyond Carniny reach with a super strike from outside the box to give Desertmartin maximum points.

Desertmartin Swifts 1 3rd Ballyclare 4

The trip to Ballyclare for the Swifts was not a happy one. They were weakened by the loss of some players who were needed for 1st team duty.

The Swifts were much the better side in the first half, playing some neat football but they let themselves down by poor finishing. However its fair to mention they did hit the post and Richard Bigger had a good effort just skimmed the crossbar.

With the scoreline blank at half-time, poor defending allowed Ballyclare to take the lead in the 1st minute of the the 2nd half . That opened the flood gates and Ballyclare added three more goals before Gareth McMenemy scored with a great strike from 30 yards out. Although the Swift piled on the pressure it was too little to late.

This saturday the 1st team are away to Raceview in the Crawford Cup and the Swifts are at home to Killymoon Reserves in the league kick off 2pm Dromore Park
