KILLYMOON Reserves entertained Magherafelt Sky Blues at the MUSA on Saturday afternoon. It was a top of the table clash as Moon sitting in first place took on the Sky Blues sitting in second place. It promised to be a great match but weather conditions were to play a major part.
Moon with the wind at their backs, took the match to the Sky Blues with some great passing and off the ball movement. With the wind playing havoc it was hard for any one team to take control and it seemed a goal was only going to come from a dead ball situation. Indeed it was Killymoon who took the lead when the Sky Blues conceded a freekick forty yards from goal.
The freekick was floated in beautifully and Craig Martin headed the ball from almost twenty yards out into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance.
The Moon continued to add pressure and Abrahams was up ended in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.
Wiliam Montgomery stepped up to take the penalty and he obliged, squeezing the ball under the goalkeeper. Halftme -2.0 to Killymoon
The wind picked up and the driving wind didn’t help either team in the second half. Moon continued to create chances with McPartland, Martin, and Young having great chances to extend the lead.
Sky Blues started to use the wind more to their advantage as they began to play long balls into the Moon box.
The away side had a great chance to pull one back but McEllhatton was in great form again this week pulling off a full length diving save.
The Sky Blues turned up the pressure and got a goal back following a scramble in front of goal O’Neill poked the ball into the net.
No more chances were created by either of the sides and the wee Moon ran out winners.
Killymoon Reserves would like to thank Drew Stewart for sponsoring the new kit for this season.
Manager Phil Gray was happy with his side who dug in and gave a spirited performance in appalling conditions.
