Moyola Park entertained Lurgan Celtic at the Mill Meadow on Saturday in their first game after the sad death of player Andrew (Shuney) Moore and all observed a minutes silence before kick off.
The visitors opened the scoring in the first couple of minutes when following a free kick by Hassan for the home side, Haire broke clear and fired a shot across Maguire and in off the post. In the 8th minute the impressive Ryan broke clear and found his shot saved by Maguire.
Four minutes later the same player had another shot saved by Maguire following a corner and Lucas broke clear for the home side and was fouled and the following free kick from Hassan was held by Fox.
Midway through the first half Ryan was causing the home team problems and firstly he had a run and shot wide, then a run and cross which was cleared by Doey and in the 23rd minute he outpaced McQuillan and shot across Maguire only for ball to hit the post and rebound back into Maguire’s arms.
The visitors continued to look for a second goal and Fitzpatrick had a header in the 27th minute saved by Maguire. In the 43rd minute a ball from McLean intended for Lucas was taken off his toe by Fox.
Just a minute later and at the other end Ryan found himself free on the left however, Maguire was quick off his line and cleared the ball. On the stroke of half time good work from McLean, Kenning found Lucas and his shot was blocked by the visitors defence.
After a tough first half, the home side picked up and played a lot better however very few chances fell to either team. Moyola made their first change in the 68th minute with Speirs replacing McLean. Two minutes later O’Hara had a shot saved by Maguire and Whiteside cleared the rebound.
With Moyola pushing for an equaliser and after giving the ball away in the middle of the park a ball through the middle found Ryan and he finished the scoring at 2-0. In the 76th minute a run from the visitors Boyd found Fitzpatrick and he saw his shot saved by Maguire.
Moyola made two more late changes with the first in the 78th minute with Clarke replacing Kenning and with two minutes left Colgan replaced Hassan. The last chance of the game fell to Pattison however he saw his free kick on the edge of the box blocked.
This was a very tough game for the home side in difficult circumstances against a very good Lurgan Celtic team.
