The two South Derry teams produced commendable Irish Cup performances, but they didn’t manage to get results to match their endeavours as Moyola Park went down 3-2 to a sucker-punch late winner from holders Glenavon and Tobermore United losing 2-0 to mighty Linfield.

There were hopes of a magnificent shock at Mill Meadow when Moyola went 2-0 ahead with super goals from Darren Walls and Chris Dooey.

But an early second half goal from Kevin Braniff sparked the Lurgan revival and they equalised when Stephen Kelly’s attempted headed clearance ended up in his own net, before the last gasp sickener from Oak Leaf county GAA player Eoghan Bradley.

Tobermore unluckily fell behind to an own goal from Andrew Neill in a fierce goalmouth scramble on 25 minutes, striker Andy Waterworth killing off a gritty home challenge at Fortwilliam Park eight minutes from time with the Linfield insurance finish.
