RBL caught by Glebe’s counterattack football

Glebe Rangers 4 Cookstown RBL 1

Cookstown RBL travelled to play Glebe Rangers in the second round of the Canada cup in Ballymoney last Saturday.

With Glebe first team not having a game they brought in several first team players to bolster their team.

As early as the second minute, McGarvey had a great chance to open the scoring only to see his effort come off the cross bar.

Cookstown RBL were having a lot of possession and a free kick by Ally Young was pushed round the post by the Glebe keeper. With so much pressure on the Glebe goal the RBL defence were having a quiet 25 minutes, but when Glebe attacked for the first time some lacklustre defending allowed Glebe to open the scoring.

A poor defensive ball out allowed the ball to be picked up an a Glebe forward blasted the ball into the net. In disbelief and disarray, the RBL coceeded two more quick goals to leave the score 3-0 at half time.

Early in the second half Glebe scored their fourth and kill off the game.

RBL continued to play football and several chances went a begging. Allen and Ally Young couldnt make up their mind who was going to tap in a certain goal only to see the ball cleared. Chesney went close with his effort.

Cookstown did reduce the score line when McGarvey was brought down in the box and the ref pointed to the spot. Simon Young cooly placed the ball high into the net to make the score 4-1.
