Reds get breathing space in drop race

Tobermore moved four points clear of the relegation zone of the IFA Championship One table with a deserved victory at Loughgall last Saturday.

Ryan Winton’s second half goal the difference in a tight game at Lakeview Park.

The first period produced little clear cut chances with Dale Malone going closest just before the break. Winton’s decisive goal came in the 64th minute when his left-footed effort evaded home goalkeeper Symon Ferguson and nestled in the far corner.

The hosts began to exert sustained pressure late on but couldn’t find a way past the resolute Tobermore defence. Lee Forgrave had excellent chance to extend his sides lead six minutes from time and in the 86th minute Daniel Gardner headed Malone’s free-kick towards his own goal, but Paul Wells did well and tipped it over the crossbar.

Tobermore now travel to Bangor next Saturday for their last game of the season needing only a draw to cement their place in Championship One for next season.
