MOYOLA PARK entertained Chimney Corner at the Mill Meadow on Saturday looking to build on the great result against Ballyclare Comrades.

Moyola started the game of well and should have went ahead in the first few minutes, however a effort from Pattison went over the visitors bar and a few minutes later the home side had a penalty appeal turned down for hand ball.

The next chance fell to Stewart in the 14th minute; however he saw his shot come back off the post. The next chance didn’t come to the 24th minute when McFadden found McIntyre and his shot was saved by the visiting keeper.

Moyola had to make a change in the 29th minute with Harkness replacing the injured Kells. In the 36th minute the home side had a goal disallowed when a corner from Hassan found McIntyre and his pass to Pattison was fired in past the visiting keeper, however the referee had adjudged that McIntyre had raised his foot to high. The home side took a deserved lead in the 44th minute when left back Lucas advanced to the edge of the box and fired and unstoppable right footed shot in off the post against his old team.

The second half had very few chances and the visitors had a chance to equalise in the 62nd minute however an unmarked defender headed wide when he should have hit the target. The Corner again should have equalised in the 80th minute however the unmarked number 6 missed the ball while in a great position to score.

At this point the visitors looked on top and fought hard for an equaliser and this nearly paid off in the last minute however, Lucas cleared the ball of the goal line.

This was a poor game for the spectator with very little chances, however Moyola manager Mervyn Pattison will be pleased to get another three points on the board and will be hoping to build on this victory.

Moyola Under 11’s open league campaign with home win

Moyola U-11 hosted Coleraine Youth in the opening match of the North West and Coleraine Youth League and were convincing 2-0 winners.

In the first half it was all Moyola with Evans, McGroggan and Lee all having efforts saved. While at the other end the defence of McErlain, Mangion, Clarke, Rafferty and Diamond were looking solid and coping with any pressure that came their way.

In the second half Moyola got the bit between their teeth and it wasn’t long before Young and McGroggan were finding their passes and chances for Lee, McAteer and Evans all going close. The first goal came when a through ball by the silky Young set up Evans and he scored with a beautiful chip over the keeper.

It was all Moyola and chances fell to McGroggan, Lagan, Lee and Young but the ball just wouldn’t go in. Moyola made it 2-0 with a fine goal from McGroggan who placed his shot low into the corner. It was a fine performance from Moyola and everyone did themselves proud playing some good football.
