COOKSTOWN Youth FC have announced a link up with English League 1 side Sheffield Wednesday.
Representatives from the CYFC board and the club PRO met with a delegation from Sheffield Wednesday last week. The link up will see coaches from the English club come over for the superb Cookstown Youth soccer fun week, which takes place in July.
Cookstown Youth PRO Andy Kelly was delighted with the partnership and admitted that a lot of work had gone on to make this possible.
“This link up has been on the cards for quite a while. John Williams from the club, had been over a few years ago at Sheffield Wednesday at a coaching clinic and since then we have been working hard to make this possible.”
Part of the link up will see coaches from the club come over for the soccer fun week in the summer.
“As well as the coaches taking our fun week, they will also provide expert advice to our teams in the evening time. The fun week this week is going to be extra special and we are looking forward to it immensely.”
In addition to coaches coming over from Sheffield, there is every possibility that the talented stars of the Cookstown youth sides could go to Sheffield Wednesday on trial.
“Of course there is that possibility of players linking up with the club. We have the opportunity to take teams over and perhaps even send some of our talented footballers over to the club. Sheffield Wednesday have a dedicated scout in Northern Ireland and we will be keeping in close contact with him.”
It is certainly an exciting time to be part of Cookstown Youth FC and the club are extremely hopeful of a productive and long relationship with the Hillsborough outfit.
