MAGHERAFELT Sky Blues Football Club is celebrating off the pitch this week with the news that the new Tesco store in Magherafelt is making a very generous donation to the club. The football club has been selected by Tesco to receive a gift of £1,000. Nora O’Donnell, store manager at the new Tesco in Magherafelt, explains:

“It has been a long-tradition of Tesco that whenever a new store opens, Tesco nominates a local community group, organisation or in this case, a sports club, to receive a financial donation ‘in kind’. When we received a letter from the club requesting sponsorship, we were keen to lend our support to help the committee continue their magnificent work at Magherafelt Sky Blues Football Club.

“Tesco recognises the importance of regular exercise to keep people fit and healthy; with well over 300 members across youth teams to the 35 years and over, we feel that Magherafelt Sky Blues Football club are worthy recipients of our donation.”

Robert Rainey, Club Chairman, Magherafelt Sky Blues Football club says:

“We are absolutely thrilled that Tesco has chosen our club to receive this very kind donation. We rely on the support of local businesses through sponsorship and donations and in the current economic climate it has become even more challenging to raise the funds needed to keep the club running. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Tesco very much; the donation will go towards essential club running costs and help us to continue to provide football opportunities to players throughout the local community.”

“ Football is the most popular sport in the world and we feel honoured that we can provide so many opportunities to local players at all ages. We have ambitious plans for next season as we aim to have run our Mini-Soccer Centre, nine youth teams, two senior teams and old boys’ team. This donation will go a long way to helping with these objectives and I can only thank Tesco on behalf of everyone at the club.”
