Ten man Celtic hold out against undefeated Lurgan Thistle

Cookstown Celtic 1

Lurgan Thistle 0

Cookstown Celtic entertained the previously undefeated Lurgan Thistle at Beechway and recorded a narrow victory.

Celtic started the better of the two teams and should have been ahead when Muldoon could only hit the post when clean through.

The Cookstown men had the ball in the back of the net when Danny Maguire fired home only for it to be ruled out for offside. Celtic again came close when a Muldoon free kick rattled the post and away to safety.

The game turned against Celtic when they were reduced to ten men when Kelly received a straight red card for reacting to some rough treatment from the Lurgan right back who amazingly only received a yellow card for his role in the fracas.

The numerical disadvantage didn’t stop Celtic continuing to dominate and they were unlucky not to go in at half time in the lead.

The second half saw Celtic continue were they left off and they took the lead fifteen minutes in as a delightful delivery from Muldoon saw Junior Maguire thunder a header past the helpless Lurgan keeper.

Lurgan started to send long balls to try and get back in the game but these were comfortably dealt with by the Celtic defence. Celtic almost doubled their lead when McOscar fired just over the bar after a fine solo run.

Celtic saw the game out for a valuable three points
