Thrilling draw for Reds

THE Reds travelled to Ballymoney on Saturday looking to extend their unbeaten run in 2012 missing a few of their regulars but boosted by the return of player manager Steven Jordan.

An unfortunate own-goal against the run of play left the Magherafelt men trailing the home side.

The Reds re-grouped and piled on the pressure in search of the equaliser and did not have to wait long to draw level with a stunning top corner goal from Ciaran McDonald.

Riada took the lead for a second time after being awarded a penalty and made no mistake in putting the ball in the nets taking the score to 2-1.

The Reds got straight back at it and they too were awarded a penalty after Ryan Taylor was brought down in the Riada box, Mark Montague continued his fine goal scoring form by placing the penalty kick past the keeper to take the score level again.

The Reds were in great form playing passing football from the middle of the park where Devlin and T. Brady were putting in an excellent shift. As if McDonald’s earlier goal was not brilliant enough Tomas Brady struck a beautiful shot from his own half which flew past the outstretched Riada keeper into the top corner giving the Reds a deserved 3 - 2 lead.

With minutes ticking away a lapse in concentration saw the away team lose the ball outside their 18 yards box and another own goal scored from the Riada attack leveling the game at 3 - 3.

Team: McManus, McDonald, Sinclair, Martin, Campbell, Taylor, T. Brady, Jordan, Devlin,S. Brady, Montague Subs: Devlin, Graham, O’Neill

An exciting game of football which saw the Reds keep their improving form and they will hope to get back to winning ways next Saturday (11th) when the host Heights FC at Meadowbank, 2pm kick off. Everyone welcome!
