U12s lose out to Limavady

Moyola U12s entertained second-placed Limavady in a Coleraine League match and were beaten 4-2 by the well organised visitors.

Moyola dominated the opening exchanges but, despite their possession, never really created any clear-cut chances until the fifteenth minute when they took a deserved lead. Diamond reacted to the Limavady’s keepers spill and scored after a fine shot by D.Hughes.

Limavady responded by putting pressure on the Moyola defence with Mangion, Clarke, McGroggan and Lee having to block shots, clear balls and make tackles.

Both teams were playing neat football but still one goal separated the teams, until indecision between two Moyola players allowed a Limavady player to score.

Moyola nearly went back in front in the second half when an inswinging free kick by Clarke was headed on by L.Young but unfortunately R.Lynn was unable to score.

Limavady took the lead 10 minutes in when deflected shot wrong-footed the helpless McErlain in goals.

Things got worse for Moyola when Gilmour gave away a needless free kick that a Limavady player scored to put his team 3-1 up.

The wee blue lads never showed any signs of giving up and pulled a goal back in the twenty-third minute when Chris Gordon won Moyola a free kick 25 yards from goal.

J.Clarke produced a moment of class by bending the ball around the Limavady wall and putting it beyond the reach of the goalkeeper. This was now a pulsating second half and the home team were hoping for further drama. It nearly came with three minutes to go when L.Young and P.Diamond combined with a neat passing move but Diamond shot wide of the post.

From the kick out the Limavady goalkeeper sent their right winger clear and he scored to put his team 4-2 up. Game over!

Team - D McErlain, M Mangion, O Lee, S McGroggan, J Gilmour, P Diamond, C Gordon, D Hughes, R Lynn, L Young. Sub - D Palframan

Moyola are playing two matches this week, home to Ballymoney on Monday 2pm and home to Coleraine Olympic on Saturday 12 noon.
