MOYOLA made the short journey to the Mill Meadow on Saturday to take on Wakehurst in an away fixture looking to get result to kick start 2012. Player manager Mervyn Pattsion put new signing Ian ‘Jimmy’ Crockett straight into the heart of midfield with his other new signing Adrian ‘Bouncey’ Whiteside unavailable due the death of his father.
Wakehurst started the game on the front foot and had an early chance in the first minute with McCaughern shooting wide. The visitor’s first chance of the game fell in the 22nd minute when a free kick was headed over by McQuillan. Wakehurst took the lead two minutes later when the ball was not cleared and C Gregg fired past Maguire.
Five minutes later the same player fired over the cross bar. With a first half of few chances coming to an end, the home side had two chances when in the 43rd minute a ball from McCaughern found J Paul and his shot went over and a minute later a shot from McIlroy was held by Maguire.
Moyola had to make a change at half time with McIntyre replacing the injured Kelly and he slotted into right midfield with McIlhatton replacing Kelly in defence. Two minutes after the restart a long ball from Johnston found Kenning who held off his marker and fired a great effort over the onrushing Maybin with the ball hitting the back of the net just under the bar much to the delight of the visitors.
Wakehurst regained the lead in the 52 minute when a shot from J Paul was well saved by Maguire only to see the ball rebound back to J Paul who made no mistake to make the score 2-1. Moyola had the next chance in the 60th minute when a free kick from Crockett was just headed wide by McIntyre and a minute later at the other end a shot from C Gregg was parried wide by Maguire. The visitors got a deserved equaliser in the 65th minute when a free kick from the impressive Crockett found the head of McQuillan and he saw his header go in off Maybin in the Wakehurst goal.
Moyola made their second change in the 67th minute with Holmes replacing Kenning and a minute later they took the lead when a great cross from McIntyre found McQuillan who saw his saved by Maybin only for the ball to come back to McQuillan who made no mistake and fired the ball into the bottom left hand corner to seal the three points.
