Moyola Park captain Steven McQuillan is the worthy winner of the October award in the Mid-Ulster Mail/Tyrone Times, the skipper having played his part in the great league run thus far which sees the Castledawson team perched proudly at the top of the Championship Two table.

October may have brought them great disappointment in suffering defeat in the final of the North West Cup at the hands of Premier League side Institute, but it was otherwise a month in which they reaped more than their fair share of league points, the Moyola Park team extending their unbeaten run to nine matches.

Although it’s a personal award, Steven - who’s from Kilrea but now living at Parkgate, said he was accepting it as recognition of the team’s achievements last month, in which they recorded league victories over Banbridge (4-3 away), Newington (2-1 at home) and Queen’s University (2-1 at home), whilst also drawing 1-1 against Coagh United at Hagan Park, those feats compensating for the 3-1 cup final defeat by Institute.
