Fr Rocks seniors produced their most impressive display of the season to see off league rivals Moy in a top of the table All County League clash on Sunday night. The home side got off to a blistering start with two points in the opening two minutes. Cookstown however took control of the game from then on and scores from play from Martin Murray and James McGahan leveled the contest on five minutes.
The teams exchanged scores for the next ten minutes with McGahan and Barry Mulligan the Rocks marksmen, and a brilliant individual effort from Shea McGarrity saw Cookstown lead by a point with five minutes to the break. A high ball into the square caused havoc in the Moy defence and Conor Mullan capitalized to fire home a vital goal, which was quickly followed by a James McGahan free to leave the half time score 1-6 to 0-5 to Cookstown.
It was the visitors who dominated the second half, which saw important points from the boot of Barry Hughes and David Hughes to stay in control. Further scores from James McGahan and Conor O’Hare were matched by a great defensive performance, which meant that Fr Rocks held on for a 1-10 to 0-9 victory.
This was a great all round team performance with all players superb on the day. The perfect response after last weeks defeat. James McGahan (0-4, 3frees), M Murray (0-1), Barry Mulligan (0-1), Conor Mullan (1-0), David Hughes (0-1), Conor Mullan (0-1), Barry Hughes (0-1), Conor O’Hare (0-1).
