Carrickmore 1-08 Coalisland 1-10

Reigning champions Carrickmore played host to Coalisland in the game of the day in senior football and it was the Fianna who came out on top to get their campaign of to the best possible start.

Caolan Daly and wing back Stephen McNally exchanged early points before County attacker Paddy McNeice weighed in with a superb brace.

Two minutes beforethe break Tiarnan O’Hagan got a Coalisland goal but almost immediately Martin Penrose responded in kind at the other end of the field before the latter also had the final say of the half to leave it 1-4 to 1-3 in their favour.

Coalisland had the wind at their backs in the second half and they bossed the third quarter to take a lead that they were never to lose thanks to scores from Cathair Quinn, Brian Toner and McNeice.

Paul McAleer opened Carrickmore’s second half account but a Conor Bayne brace kept the visitors in front and despite late scores from Colm McGurk, Daly and Penrose the Fianna held out with Brian Toner getting their last point.

Donaghmore 1-05 Errigal Ciaran 0-10

At halftime Donaghmore had high hopes of upsetting the odds at Father Devlin Park but they managed only one point in the entire second half as Errigal Ciaran fought back to take the spoils.

The least said about the opening twenty minutes the better as neither side produced a score before midfielder Niall McKenna got the scoreboard up and running. Peter McKenna and Damian McDermott exchanged points before wing back Shea Hamill scored a Donaghmore goal.

Patrick Doherty then tagged on a point and while Mark Kavanagh had the final say of the half for the visitors they trailed 1-4 to 0-2.

Hamill opened the second half scoring in the eighth minute to put the home side eight in front but they failed to score again.

Three frees in a row from the boot of Tommy Canavan closed the gap before Peter Harte and a McDermott brace levelled the argument.

The visitors had all the momentum and they closed the game out with points from Ciaran McGinley and Canavan in the final six minutes.

Moy 1-11 Augher 2-07

Two injury time frees from Tyrone captain Sean Cavanagh won the day for Moy after visitors Augher had threatened to win the game with two goals in the final dozen minutes. Jamie Donnelly and Daire Kavanagh had early points for the visitors but in the fifth minute Ryan O’Neill crashed in a Moy goal.

Kavanagh and Jarlath Daly responded for the St.Macartans but then five points in a row from Sean Cavanagh [3], Colm Cavanagh and teenager Ryan Coleman saw the hosts lead 1-7 to 0-6 at the interval. Sean Cavanagh and former Tyrone star

Ryan Mellon increased that lead within ten minutes of the resumption but Augher weren’t finished yet.

Aidan McElroy scored a goal and with two minutes to go Aidan Cassidy won a penalty which Liam Connolly converted.

Moy didn’t panic though and after Cavanagh had levelled matters the same player held his nerve to stroke over the winner as well.

Strabane 2-07 Clonoe 1-16

This was always going to be a tough assignment for newly promoted Strabane at home to the County champions and so it proved as Clonoe came out on top at Sigerson Park despite missing a few regulars.

Ryan T O’Neill bagged a 9th their way with Connor McAliskey tagging on a couple of points. Michael Etherson and John McLaughlin replied for Strabane but it was Clonoe who led by five at the break after Martin

Hughes and Paul Coney both found the range. John Paul Gallagher had the opening point of the second half and that was quickly followed by a McLaughlin goal. Sensing the danger though Clonoe lifted their game with Stephen McNulty, Daryl Magee, Danny McNulty,

McAliskey and defender Dwayne Quinn all on target as they hit five points on the trot.

With eight minutes to go Gallagher converted a penalty but once again the visitors pulled away with scores from McAliskey, Danny McNulty and Gary Coney. In the closing stages Strabane were reduced to fourteen men when Ciaran Friel picked up a black card having been earlier shown a yellow.

Omagh 1-20 Eskra 1-11

This was an historic day for Eskra as they played their first game in division one but Omagh were in no mood to be charitable as they claimed victory at Healy Park.

Conor O’Hagan put the Emmetts in front inside sixty seconds but the home side then took control as they landed 1-11 without reply.

Ronan O’Neill, Conor Meyler, Kieran Brannigan and Conor O’Donnell all had points with the latter also scoring a goal. Joe McCarroll had two points for the visitors

but they had their work cut out for them in the second half. McCarroll and Peter Hughes had early points but those scores were cancelled out by Jason McAnulla and Conan Grugan.

The Emmetts then enjoyed their best spell of the game with Aaron Kelly, Hughes and Paul Turbitt clipping over points and Niall Marlow getting a 48th were always in control with O’Neill, O’Donnell and Grugan tagging on further points for a comfortable win.

Cookstown 1-05 Killyclogher 0-10

Killyclogher had three players sent off at Paddy Cullen Park but they still managed to secure an unlikely win at the expense of hosts Cookstown.

It was the visitors who led 0-5 to 0-4 at halftime with Leo Meenan scoring all but one of their points, Owen Mulligan with three for the Father Rocks. Mark Bradley and Conal McCann helped moved Killyclogher three in front before they lost Niall McFadden to a straight red card from Trillick referee Francie

Gallagher. Mulligan then converted a Cookstown penalty before Killyclogher responded with points from Bradley and Meenan.

The visitors then lost Emmett McFadden and Declan Leonard to double yellow card offences but they held on with Raymond Mulgrew’s punched effort just clearing the bar at the end when a goal would have levelled matters.

Dromore 2-07 Eglish 0-08

Dromore got their campaign off to a winning start when they held off a second half revival from Eglish to take the spoils at home.

The St.Dympnas made use of the wind in the first half and after early points from Eoin McCusker and Ciaran McCoy then got a fortunate goal when Eglish defender Jonathan Jordan turned the ball into his own net. Peter McCann and Sean McKillion had Eglish points but the home side led 2-3 to 0-2 at the break after Ruairi Sludden had thumped in a brilliant goal.

In the second half the McKenna brothers Ryan, Emmett and Conor all had Eglish points but despite a lot of pressure they couldn’t get on level terms and points from McCusker and substitute Conor O’Neill on the break sealed a Dromore victory.
