Augher will be playing senior football next season for the first time since 1991 after they turned in a superb performance to completely overwhelm Edendork in this play off encounter at Carrickmore yesterday afternoon, writes Kevin Kelly.

It was a game that the St.Macartans dominated from start to finish and they were full value for their win and after coming through three play-off games they have more than earned their promotion back to the top flight.

Edendork on the other hand will be bitterly disappointed with their display as they failed to play with the same intensity that saw them overcome Kildress a week earlier after extra time and it means that the St.Malachys make the drop straight back down to Intermediate football after only twelve months back in Division One.

Darren McCurry put Edendork ahead from a free inside sixty seconds, but that was as good as it got for the St.Malachys as Augher took the game by the scruff of the neck. A Jamie Donnelly free levelled matters before they struck for the only goal of the game in the 10th minute when Kevin Hackett got on the end of a high delivery in from midfielder Aidan Cassidy to punch to the net past keeper Mark McReynolds. Donnelly and Conor Mallon then traded points before the former scored from play as well as from a free in the closing minutes of the half to leave his side 1-4 to 0-2 in front at the break.

Edendork once again scored within a minute of the start of the half this time from Niall Morgan but the anticipated comeback never materialised as Augher kept them at arms length playing some superb football in the process. Donnelly knocked over a free before Francis McMeel and Sean Hackett both registered from play to push them further in front by the 10th minute. McCurry landed another point from a placed ball but with a quarter of an hour still left on the clock that proved to be their last score of the afternoon.

Augher were on top throughout the field and indeed they could have won by a greater margin but for the fact that they kicked a number of wides. Donnelly and substitute Aidan McElroy both tagged on points from play with the former also converting a free as they ran out emphatic winners on the day to join Cookstown and Moy in winning promotion to division one for next season.
