Ulster U18 missed out on winning their Interprovincial title this weekend at Mossley Hockey Club on goal difference to eventual winners Leinster.

One player who was part of the Ulster squad who ran Leinster close in the Interpros was Andrew Smyth, who plays his hockey for Cookstown and studies at Drumragh College in Omagh. Andrew also contributed two goals to help Ulster defeat Leinster in the second of their games.

The U18s got off to the best start at the Interpros with a 2-1 victory over Munster. However, the host province lost out 2-1 to the southern men in their second match.

Ulster stepped up their game against Leinster on Saturday afternoon clinching a 1-1 draw. And Cookstown starlet Smyth sealed victory over the Dubliners with a double in their 3-1 victory.

Leinster claimed the Interprovincial series title on goal difference by three goals which was unfortunate for the Ulster boys but they can be proud of how they performed during the weekend and the commitment and determination they showed on the pitch was second to none.

Ulster U16 retained their Interpro title with a perfect record across four game, clinched an impressive 6-1 win over Leinster in their last game.
