Cookstown Ladies 5 Greenisland 0
Cookstown Ladies met bottom of the table Greenisland at home on Saturday and put them away with aplomb.
The Reds came out strong and straight away created chances, but were unable to convert the chances to goals.
Eventually Rachel Stewart received a pass from Claire Brown and had a straight shot on goal and scored.
Cookstown had a few more attacks in the firsts half but Greenisland defence kept strong to keep them out.
At the beginning of the second half Greenisland were determined and drove at Cookstown defence but the defence line of Jackie Burns, Rebecca Smyth, Louise Donaghy and Jessica Richardson managed to keep them out of the circle not allowing them near the goals.
A run from Leanne Johnston into the circle won Cookstown a short corner. The straight shot from Jackie came off the keepers pads but luckily Louise Donaghy was ready at the post and got Cookstown’s second goal.
Ruth and Claire Brown linked well throughout but by using short passes between each other to get into the circle resulted in Ruth getting the next goal.
Greenisland came back hard and drove at the Cookstown defence an managed to get into the circle and win a short corner. Cookstown were determined to have a clean sheet and a save from Beth Williamson kept it.
Cookstown fought back and when Greenisland had a hit out Rachel Miller intercepted to go one on one with the keeper and won.
Great work from the midfield from Ruth Brown, Gemma Todd and Leanne Johnston kept Cookstown pushing up and spending a lot of time in Greenisland’s half.
Just before the end a pass from the Jessica Richardson in Cookstown’s half found Claire Brown who beat the defence and went one on one with the keeper and got Cookstown another goal leaving the score 5-0 to Cookstown.
