Cookstown II 2 NI Civil Service II 0
COOKSTOWN had a hard day at the office on Saturday when they struggled to a 2-0 win against Civil Service.
The two teams had shared the points earlier in the season at Stormont and the Reds knew that they were in for a tough day against the men from Belfast.
The home side started fast and had a number of short corner opportunities but failed to convert from the set piece. Great play by Stevie Allen and Tony Johnston, in particular, carved open the NICS back four but were unable to find the finish and give Cookstown the lead.
The game remained without goals until ten minutes into the second half when Thomas Hutchinson coolly lobbed the goalkeeper from a broken down short corner.
Cookstown continued to give up possession in advanced areas of the field, but strong work by Tony Johnston alongside Dicky Nelson and Hutchinson kept Service pinned back in their own half.
However, one foray into the Cookstown half left the Stormont men short and the pace of Andy Smyth took him past the defence where a trademark reverse beat the keeper.
