Mid ulster Angling Club opened their season on Saturday 3rd March with a member’s competition.
15 anglers braved the conditions with a cold North West wind blowing off the mountain.
Fishing was difficult, however 15 fish were banked. Most fish were taken on lures, the predominant colour being black and green or a mixture of the two colours. Some fish were taken on small wet flies as well. Winners were John Speers for heaviest bag and George Sloan for heaviest fish of almost 2 lbs. The prizes were 2 beautiful pictures of fishing scenes kindly donated by George Gourley.
Over the last 3 years over 20,000 fish have been stocked in the lough and these are now growing on and with a bit of warmer weather should make for some good sport. New and past members of the club are most welcome to join for the 2012 season.
