Nineteen Sperrin Harriers successfully competed along with 14,000 others in the Belfast Marathon on Monday of last week.
Two relay teams and seven individual runners took part in reasonably good weather conditions. Delfim Pimental with a time of 2:48:17 was 12th overall followed by Neil Campbell on 3:07:25.
Next in was Adrian McCresh (3:23:26), followed closely behind by Eamonn Sheehan 3:27:41 and Adrian Glendinning 3:27:58. Kieran Campbell came home in a time of 3:43 with Darren Warnock comfortably crossing the line on 3:59:02.
Jeremy Dobson, Thomas McDonald, Toirleach Gourley, Jason O’Neill and Dean Corey made up the Harriers male relay team. Jeremy Dobson, the first team member off, kept on running to complete the full marathon in a time of 4.09.
The girls relay team comprised of Louise Kelly, Fiona Devlin, Joanne Bell and Ciara Coyle, who made a welcome return from long term injury. Also competing in other relay teams were Maureen Mallon, Roisin Martin and Hannah Su.
Toirleach Gourley had little time to recover being back in action the day after the Belfast Marathon in the Festival of Miles at the Mary Peters’ Track.
Despite the heavy downpour just before the gun, Toirleach got off to a good start taking an early lead in the 5-6 minutes race. Although he relinquished this lead in the second half of the one mile race, his performance was sufficient to give him 12th place overall in the M35 category.
On Sunday last, a number of Sperrin Harriers travelled “up the road” to Lavey/ Gulladuff. Pauline McGurren was the first Harrier to finish in a time of 40.22 taking 4th female spot.
Jeremy Dobson having ran the Belfast Marathon on the previous Monday, came home in a respectable time of 43.40. Laura McErlain was next in on 45.25, followed by Damian Kerr on 46.13. Patsy Hughes crossed the line on 46.51 with Bronagh Hawe following him in on 48.36. Marty McDermott represented the Harriers in this inaugural cross border marathon putting in a good performance and finishing in a time of 1:27:42.
