Armstrong is latest medal winner at Moyola Park

THE September monthly medal competition held at Moyola Park Golf Club, brought a narrow victory for three handicapper Hilary Armstrong

His winning return of 66 was matched by the runner up,Johnny McKenna (17), a count back deciding the placings.In third was Don Montgomery (17) 68, while the handicap category prizes go to- 0-9,Damian McCusker (0) 71;10-13,Martin Lennox (11) 69;14-17, Paddy Henry (14) 69;18 plus, Charlie J.Donnelly (23) 68. Seniors prize – David Dunlop (23) 70.

There were 17 optional twos winners, each getting 5 golf balls.

A Sweep Stableford was held the next day. Here,Gerald Loughlin (15) took the honours with a score of 40pts.Second went to Seamus Graffin (17) 39pts, and third Brendan Lagan (9) 38pts. For the fifth consecutive competition, scratch handicapper Damian McCusker took the best gross prize.

On this occasion he returned a round of 71.The handicap category prizes go to – 0-9, Dean Crawford (3) 37pts; 10-17, Noel McMullan (11) 37pts (on better back nine ); 18 plus, David Dunlop (22) 35pts (on better back nine ).

By a better back nine, Ann Regan has won the McKnights Jewellers sponsored “The Girls” Stableford.Runner up was Geraldine Kelly, both returning 33pts. And, the McKees Butchers 18 Hole Sweep – Moyola Ladies Cup – saw Sinead McMeel take first place.A close second here was Ann Regan.Next round of the annual Coast & Country Alliance League will be played at Roe Park on Monday, 15th October.

This year’s Winter League will run from 20th October until 10th February, 2013.Rules format is same as last year with entry fee being £25, which includes dinner at the presentation on February 22. Fees must be paid in bar before Sunday, 14th October.There will be teams of eight persons, pick your own team maybe of two fourball etc.If you cannot get a full team,enter your name/s and you will be allocated one.Place all names in the convenors box beside the computer.And,a fundraising charity quiz is to be held in the clubhouse at Halloween. In support of the Lady Captains chosen charity, “Smile Train”, fuller details nearer the time.

A Nine Hole Competition is being held on Thursdays.With the exception of any open events that may take place on this day, entry will be £2 per card, available from the pro shop. All cards must be returned to the bar. Saturday and Sunday brings Sweep Stablefords while Monday continues the Seniors (over 50s) Open Stablefords. The ladies play in their annual Autumn League.
