THE end of the fishing season is almost on us once again - finishing on the 31st October. River levels have been sustained by the recent wet weather and this has allowed salmon to move up through the river. Angling effort has been high in the last few weeks resulting in some great salmon having been caught. Salmon into double figures have been reported. Congratulations, however, go to one angler who caught the fish of his lifetime, D. Armstrong while fishing a spinner caught and successfully landed a salmon of 16lb 2oz. This is the biggest fish reported this season and one of the biggest for many seasons.
The last competition of the season took place last Saturday, unfortunately no salmon were caught on the day resulting in 1 trout of 14oz winning the competition for J. Nelson. The recently fished J. McAlister Cup was won by G. Webb with 1 salmon for 5lb, runner up J. Brownlow with a 3lb salmon.
Everyone will have noticed that the new fish counter has now been opened and the grounds work have almost been completed, work will now be carried out by DCAL staff to install the fish counting technology.
