The East Tyrone Youth Squad got their Ulster open racing season off to a great start with two wins in the first event at Bartins Bay near Lurgan.
Walter Acheson was the winner of the Novice Class in which Kyle Junk also took part. Jake Gray won a closely contested sprint to take the honours in the U14 Category with Aaron Ruddell well placed in the U12s.
The East Tyrone had seven riders taking part in the various age groups with Lee Somerville, Darren Toner and Harry McComb all involved in the U16 group with all doing well and giving of their best on the day.
Meanwhile the Seniors were also in winning mode during the week with Robert Stewart and Stephen Hutchinson tying for first place in the Carn Wheelers 5 mile TT on the Curran course, both recording 11 minutes 14 seconds. Other East Tyrone times were Geoffrey Seffen 12.10, Melvin Steele 12.23, John McGlaughlin 12.37, Ashley Sands 13.42 and Leslie Mitchell 13.59.
Finally the opening round of the Cooper Motorcycles Time Trial League will be held tonight Thursday on the Omagh Road starting at the Cookstown-Omagh Council Boundary at 7pm. A big entry is expected with the event open to all categories including Underage and Novices.
Robert Stewart and Stephen Hutchinson’s results would suggest they will be in contention but David Heagney, Andrew Bradley and Gary Jeffers should be in the shake up. However last years Overall League winner Noel Wilson has been riding well in open races since the start of the season and has the form to make a big impact and will be out to defend his title.
