SPRINGHILL Boxing Club were celebrating a victory in the Ulster Novice Intermediate Championships last week as heavyweight Audries Grakaiskis came home victorious.
The Moneymore boxer sealed the title after an impressive semi final victory over Cooper from Bangor in the semi finals and an impressive victory over Denis Boriskins from Camlough in the final.
In the final held at Donegal Celtic FC, Grakaiskis dominated the first round. In the second round he unleashed a huge right hand which rocked Boriskins who fell to the canvas. The referee counted to eight as the Camlough man got to his feet.
In the final round, Grakaiskis continued to stay on top and following another big right hand, the bout was sensibly stopped by the referee.
In the next couple of weeks Springhill have three boxers competing in the 9 Counties Novice Championship.
Three members, Kevin Corcoran, Ryan McNamee and Grainne O’Neill will all take to the ring to compete.
Ladies boxercise and keep fit continues at the club every Tuesday and Thursday evening. It is £5 for two sessions or £3 for one.
