Mansell wins third Tyrone Darts title

Mickey Mansell who hails from Clonoe played brilliant darts to be crowned 2011 Tyrone Individual Darts Champion on Saturday past collecting the £500 winners cheque in the 8th annual Tyrone Individual Darts Championships.

This annual prestigious event is only open to Tyrone based players with the tournament becoming one of the biggest and recognised tournaments throughout the province never mind the county of Tyrone and once again with the large turnout of players that was proved when the 8th annual event took place at the Weigh Inn Bar & Lounge venue in Omagh on Saturday 9th April.

Once again almost every town and village in the county was represented but come Saturday evening it was the current holder Mickey Mansell who was crowned champion retaining his title he won 12 months ago with a superb 7-0 victory over Eddie Jones (Sixmilecross) in the Final.

The Clonoe player was pushed all the way and had a early escape in the last-64 when young Mark Summerville (Clogher) missed three darts at double 20 for victory but Mickey showed all his experience and class to bounce back by getting over the winning line on a 4-3 victory on this occasion and from then on was a convincing winner round by round.

Mickey, who has now become a three times champion defeated the following players on route to victory starting of in the last-64 coming from 3-1 down against Mark Summerville to won 4-3 and the Cloneo player followed that up with further victories over Neill Conroy (Strabane, last-32, 4-0), Rodney Greer (Cookstown, last-16, 5-2), Shane Pearson (Pomeroy, ¼-finals, 5-1), Gerald Maguire (Claddy, semi-finals, 6-0) and rounded of the tournament with another convincing victory over Eddie Jones (Sixmilecross) in the final on a 7-0 score-line to be crowned 2011 Tyrone Individual Darts Champion.

The organisers would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every player, all the board markers and callers, to Neechy and Mickey Donnelly and there staff at the Weigh Inn venue for providing a fantastic playing venue for these annual Tyrone championships and also to all the venues from throughout Tyrone who staged the qualifiers throughout the year, making this event what it is today and not forgetting a big thank-you to all the local Tyrone newspapers for all there support advertising this local and prestigious tournament.
